In 2015, China and Pakistan formally launched an economic corridor China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Ever since, the Chinese state-owned enterprises have expanded their presence, especially in the energy sector, across Pakistan in almost every part of the country. These projects, and many others under the Belt and Road Initiative, constitute the concrete articulation of Global China which has been influential in many developing countries, including Pakistan. But what is the impact of Chinese presence in Pakistan now, and what projects have Chinese SOEs undergone in recent years? How do these projects affect local communities and Pakistan in a broader sense?
