Giles Mohan is a human geographer who obtained his PhD from University of Liverpool in 1993. His work focuses on the politics of development, with particular attention to the interconnections between territorial scales and transnational networks.

He has taught at University of Liverpool, University of Central Lancashire, University of Portsmouth, and The Open University.

He has served as a handling editor of the Review of African Political Economy and as a member of the editorial boards of Political Geography, Antipode, Geography Compass, and the International Development Planning Review. He has also worked as a consultant on BBC / The Open University productions, including African School, Indian School, Comic Relief, the Reith Lectures, Why Poverty?, and Project17.

From 2014 to 2022, he directed The Open University’s Strategic Research Area (SRA) in International Development and Inclusive Innovation, a pan-university and interdisciplinary initiative that developed large-scale, challenge-led research projects valued at approximately £20 million. He is currently one of the Directors of the Open Societal Challenges programme at The Open University, which focuses on delivering research addressing major societal challenges.
