About
Filippo joined the Department of Politics and International Studies as a Lecturer in October 2019. Previously, he taught at the University of Birmingham and at the University of Nottingham, where he completed his PhD in June 2017. Filippo is an Associate Editor of the journal Regional and Federal Studies and you can follow him @filippoboni.bsky.social.
His research interests lie at the intersection of International Relations and Area Studies, with a particular focus on China’s global ascent and its interaction with regional orders and domestic political economies of Europe and South Asia. His work has looked at the use of "strategic partnerhsips" as a diplomatic tool; the international relations of South Asia, with a focus on the bilateral ties between Pakistan and China; and the federal and civil-military dynamics within Pakistan.
Filippo co-convenes the "Politics of South Asia" Specialist Group of the UK's Political Studies Association and he was an academic consultant on the BAFTA nominated, OU-BBC documentary "Trump Takes on the World".
