Propose an MGC Story
Short, field-based stories about the places where China’s global presence becomes visible, told on a map by the researchers who know them.
A port, a border crossing, a market, a highway or a pipeline, told by someone who was there
Each story is pinned to one place on the Mapping Global China map and turned into an interactive map: as readers scroll through your text, a point travels along a route, stops at the places you describe, and each photo takes them to where it was taken. Every story also gets its own article page and a PDF, ready to cite, and we can list your related academic work beside it.
Your text
About 300–500 words, written for a general reader rather than an academic one, from a place you know first-hand.
Your photos
Your own photos and short videos, each with a caption. Every one can take the reader to where it was taken.
Your map
You build it on the form: the pin, the route a point travels along, the stops, and the MGC data shown around the place.
You need a Mapping Global China account to propose a story
It keeps your draft and your files together, and lets you follow your proposal afterwards. The form takes about 20 minutes. The MGC team reads every proposal and writes back with questions or suggested edits; you see the finished story before it goes live, and you are credited as its author.
