About
Andrew Grant is a human geographer whose research focuses on the political geographies of development and humanistic social science. He is currently Assistant Professor of Geography at the University of Tampa. He holds a PhD in Geography from University of California, Los Angeles and has taught at University of California, Los Angeles, University of Colorado, and Boston College.
His research and teaching emphasize how development—of cities, border sites, and energy systems—affects people and landscapes in global margins, often as a result of broader geopolitical shifts. His work includes studies on the urban geopolitics of rural-to-urban migration amid state-led urbanization on the Tibetan Plateau, the tensions between soft power and security along China’s Inner Asian borders, and the geopolitics of cartography related to the Belt and Road Initiative. His research is grounded in qualitative methods, including ethnography, interviews, and textual analysis.
