Belt and Road Initiative

This map highlights infrastructure projects part of the Belt and Road Initiative supported by Chinese funders, including government agencies and state-owned companies. The map shows satellite images of projects before and after implementation, including surface reflectance and nighttime light. It also has the option of showing existing infrastructures, and China-funded infrastructures.

The project information is collected from Hong Kong institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Hong Kong, Reconnecting Asia Project Database, AIDDATA GeoQuery, Boston University Global China Dataset, and NYU Shanghai. The satellite images are acquired from Landsat, Sentinel, and VIIRS by NYU Shanghai. As Map Version 1.0, it is undergoing quality assurance (no liability for data usage, please report data issues).
